well, hello spring...

Usually the first day of Spring is a big deal around here.  It means that warmer weather is on the way.  However, this year's weather has been CRAZY warm.  The boys have been wearing shorts to school for two weeks.  So instead of the First Day of Spring being a big deal.  It's just another day.  This week they are forecasting high 70's for the end of the week.  Can you say, global warming?!?

All of our trees have buds on them, the cherry trees are in full blossom and I see yards full of daffodils when I drive Luke to school.  All of this is crazy early this year.  I'm not complaining because I love the warm weather and we slept with the windows open over the weekend.

I heart Pinterest.  And if you are one of the few that isn't on it or doesn't know what it is, I'm sorry to be the one to introduce you.  Really I am.  It is addicting and inspiring.    This is so true...

Anyway, a while back I saw all these pins for this rainbow crayon art.  This is from Meg Duerksen's blog whatever.

I thought it looked like a really fun craft and I decided I wanted to try it with the boys.  I'm always looking for craft ideas that aren't too girly and don't include lots of glitter or other stuff.  It is really difficult to find age appropriate crafts for my boys.  Well,  one thing led to another and I never did do this craft with them.  Now fast forward to March's respite night at our church.  They always do a craft with the kids and guess what the craft was this month...

You got it!  They did the rainbow crayon art project.  It looks so great.  Apparently Cindi who puts respite night together did not know about Pinterest and so I sent her an invite.  She's not very happy with me now.

Basically, you hot glue a box of crayons in rainbow color order to a canvas.  Then use your hair dryer on hot to melt the crayons.  As they melt they create the dripping down the canvas effect.

I had to bribe my model with jelly beans in order to get him to stand still for these pictures.  He complained I was being mean when I asked him to hold the canvas straight.  I guess it's true that models are temperamental.

I still haven't decided where I'm going to hang this yet.  I think it would look cute in their playroom.  But the crayons make one end heavier than the other, so I may just lean it on a shelf.

So tell me, are you addicted to Pinterest?  Let me know, and I'll follow you.  I spend a lot of time on it but haven't pinned or repinned too much yet.  If you want an invite I can send you one, but only if you promise not to blame me for introducing you to it...

Oh yeah!  I almost forgot.  If you live locally, you can get a free Rita's Water Ice today in honor of the first day of Spring.  Check it out!

I saw this craft on on pinterest too, and was wondering how it would turn out if an average crafter like me attempted it. Cute! My favorite part of pinterest is drooling over all of the food/recipes, and then counteracting that by looking at inspirational work out quotes/pictures.

Hi Anne,

That crayon rainbow craft is so cute! I've seen it around too before and have yet to try it. Did they use thicker paper like card stock to hold the crayons?

As to Pinterest, I really don't know what it is. Can you send me an invite so I can check it out? I promise not to hold you accountable if I become addicted!!

Rainbow crayon art project is nice and attractive. A picture can describe more than 100 words then an article and picture is more attractive and interesting then an article.
