I think we are in trouble...

After almost two and a half years of sitting like a lump, Grace is on the move! And getting into everything. This week I have found her trying to get into the dishwasher, something she has crawled or walked past hundreds of time without interest.

Thankfully, she couldn't hitch her short little legs up there :)

And then I found her in our front hall tearing into our one and only houseplant. Well, we have a cactus but that doesn't really count. This is what I found and when I called her name, she squealed in delight and starting ripping off more leaves.

And today, was the worst. Sob. I walked into the kitchen to find her playing on the floor with my camera. I love my camera. I know, I know. We are not supposed to love things. But I really love this camera (it's a Nikon D40 SLR). So I pried it away from her hands and prayerfully took the lens cap off. And sob. Shattered glass fell to the floor. I couldn't believe it. She broke the (now I'm going to get really technical here) top layer of glass on the lens. I immediately tried to take some pictures and it does still work (well actually, I immediately cleaned up the glass because she was crawling on the floor). The pictures seem to be clear enough. I need to find out if I should still use it or get it repaired or tell my husband that it is beyond repair and upgrade to another, better lens.

Anyway, then she walked away and tried to act all innocent of the deed! See, she even ate a cracker while walking away!

I am really sorry about your camera. My camera (a canon eos slr) is the one object I really care about and feel like is just mine. Everything else in my house is fair game for Benji to destroy. Okay, not really, but that's how it feels. So, I feel your pain. Do you use a filter on your lens? If not, you might consider one for your new lens. Mine broke recently and the lens was fine underneath.
On another note, how wonderful that Grace is doing some "normal" kid things! There must be part of you that is rejoicing in these milestones! I"m happy for her and for you that she is getting more mobile. Although we all know that mobility comes with a cost to parents :).

Go Grace!!! I know.....Mobile kids come with a price......but just think of how long you went never expecting her to be able to get into so much trouble!!! It makes you smile now, doesn't it.....

Sounds like Grace was biding her time till she KNEW she could do a whole LOT of things!!! Pretty soon you should be able to walk into a kitchen with a gallon of milk on the floor ;) So happy to hear about her ingenuity. Sorry about the camera.
