The other day the boys were going stir crazy. They were bickering, fighting, whining, crying and basically making each other (and me) miserable. So I declared that we were going to our favorite gardens to walk and run until we were all in a better mood. That set off more whining, claims of stomach aches & exhaustion, and assertions that they didn't waaaaant to gooooo. However, I prevailed. By which I mean I said, 'we are going. you are going to have fun. now get in the car!'
It was such a beautiful but cold day that we ended up spending about 2 hours running, playing and exploring. The gardens were all decorated for Christmas and the displays are so beautiful. It was such good light, I wished I had my big camera but I used my phone to snap these pictures of our day.
And yes, John is wearing shorts (and a short sleeved t-shirt) outside at the end of November in 42 degree weather. Everywhere we go I have other moms comment on the fact that this is such a boy trait. I've basically given up and let him wear shorts whenever he wants too. I'm just glad his school dress code doesn't allow shorts after the end of October, so we don't have to discuss pants vs shorts every morning.
The boys had so much fun that there was whining and complaining and tears when I said we had to go home. I know the irony of it all would almost be funny if it wasn't happening to me...
